Culture Week

This week we are learning about different countries and their culture. Today we went to Mrs. Dreher's class. She talked about Brazil which is in South America. In South America there is the Amazon Rain Forest and River. We read the Umbrella book. The kid in the book wanted to see all kinds of animals in the Amazon Rain Forest. In Brazil they speak Spanish. It was a funny book. Jan Brett was the author and illustrator of the book, The Umbrella. Jan Brett's pictures are very nice. In all of her books she puts pictures to show what happens. There are animals in the book that talked Spanish. I think she has a good imagination for ideas and pictures. In the book it showed a baby tapir. Brazil takes up about half of South America. Across from Brazil there is a big river.

Cooper's Grandma and Grampa, John & Deb, hosted an exchange student from Brazil, her name was Marianna and Cooper met her once a few years ago, she is very nice and is now a lawyer in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

I think it is fun to teach kids other languages. We received a bilingual book called "Tim and Kim" by Kay Linda Nord. Super cute. Great illustrations. The story is in both english and spanish on the same page. So, the kids are really into it. They follow along, and actually using Spanish they have learned.

I will check out the Umbrella book. I am not sure what age you have, but this book is for preschooler/kindergarten age. I saw it on Amazon, but just found the author's site: http://kaylindanord.com/

Thanks again!
