Last Blog
We have had a pretty good year!! These were some of the things we will remember about our year in second grade. I remember Camp Read A Lot. We made lots of things in Camp that were fun. We had two caves. Some of us brought stuffed animals. We made arts and crafts too. We had a Reading Carnival. We got to shoot hoops. If we won or tried a game, we got a prize that we got to keep. Lots of people had at least 90 tickets. There was a fishing game with numbers 1, 2, and 3. Lots of moms and dads helped. Each game cost 5 tickets. We had a concession stand where popcorn and juice cost 1 ticket each. We went to the zoo in April. We had to walk a lot. It was a really cool day. It was fun at the zoo because we could see lots of animals. At the zoo we had lunch. We also had a Buy-Sell Day. For Buy Sell Day we had to have a poster to show what we were going to sell. Buy Sell Day was kind of like the Reading Carnival where we could earn tickets. You could sell that you made or didn't want. You could even sell homemade food. Our last activity was the picnic. The picnic was at Sunnyside Park. It was really fun at the park. There was a whole bunch of stuff there. They have new playground equipment. We could snack all we wanted to in the afternoon, but not in the morning. We even got to share food. It is called Sunnyside Park, but it wasn't a very sunny day. You could bring toys to Sunnyside. Some people played football and some people kicked a soccer ball. It was a little foggy when we got there. Some people had races and played tag. Mrs. Riggs' and Mrs. Garrett's classes were the first to arrive. Some of the buses were so full, some of the teachers drove their cars. Have a sunny summer. Don't let rain ruin your vacation. Have a fun summer vacation. Have a great, great, time in summer. Have a swimming summer. Have a cool summer. Have a great year. Have a hot summer. We're soon to be third graders!!!

Ice Cream Party
We are trying to earn points for our ice cream party. Some of us are working very hard!!!! Some of us need to try harder. We need to stop talking right away when directions are given. We need to work on listening by stop talking, turn to the person, and look with our eyes. Some of us need to make better decisions about our behavior. Lots of us are really trying. Some of us won't be having homemade ice cream because we have forgotten our homework too many times, are silly when we know we shouldn't be, and haven't always told the truth. Mrs. Riggs is really hoping that we can have homemade ice cream!!!

Weekend
Some of us had lots of chores to do. My mom and I went to Sunnyside Park and played frisbee. Some kids went to graduation parties. Some people went to church on Sunday. Some of us had to plant tomatoes, sweet corn, and strawberries. We also went fishing. Some of us went to see Narnia 2. Some people went to Lake Anita for camping. Camping at Littlefield was fun for some of us. We also caught lots of fish. One person went to an airport to get their mom. She went to NY city. Some people might have went golfing. One other person went to Storm Lake. One person went to Lake Anita to go camping. Mushroom hunting and boating was done at Lake Icaria by one person. Some people planted flowers and mulched them. Some people stayed up late past 12:00 on Saturday night. Lots of people went outside to play with their friends and cousins. One person went to a graduation. During the graduation he went to a friend's house to ride bikes.

More Countries
Today we went to Mrs. Daugherty's room. She taught us about Ireland. Ireland is the country of the fairy, giant, and leprechaun. She said that most Irish last names start with O or Mc. In Mrs. Riggs' room we are learning more about Japan. In Japan they eat sushi and other sea animals. We just finished watching a movie about Japan. In Japan some people worship an emperor. In Japan you get to rent a dog for an hour or two. Some houses are so small, that there is not enough room. In Japan they make wishes when they ring a bell. We have one more country to go to and it's Russia.

Culture Week
This week we are learning about different countries and their culture. Today we went to Mrs. Dreher's class. She talked about Brazil which is in South America. In South America there is the Amazon Rain Forest and River. We read the Umbrella book. The kid in the book wanted to see all kinds of animals in the Amazon Rain Forest. In Brazil they speak Spanish. It was a funny book. Jan Brett was the author and illustrator of the book, The Umbrella. Jan Brett's pictures are very nice. In all of her books she puts pictures to show what happens. There are animals in the book that talked Spanish. I think she has a good imagination for ideas and pictures. In the book it showed a baby tapir. Brazil takes up about half of South America. Across from Brazil there is a big river.

Ooops
We have been so busy that we haven't had time to blog for a couple of days. Tomorrow we will have our Career Fair. We will learn about different jobs. In the afternoon we will go to the YMCA for our fun swimming. We think we will be able to go down the slide and be in the deep end if we have passed the test. Don't forget to bring your swimming things.

Reading Carnival
When we quit on May 22nd. To earn tickets, you must be a good listener. Mrs. Daugherty's reading class got 20 tickets today. If you are not listening, you may lose tickets. If we are not good, we don't get more tickets. If we are good, we can get 3 more tickets. Sometimes we can earn 1 or 2 tickets. We will spend our tickets on games. One of the games may be 4 square. There will be a concession stand at the reading carnival. We don't know what kind of food and drinks will be at the concession stand. There will be 18 different games there. Most of us think the carnival will be fun. If you pass your goal, you will earn more tickets. Some of us have to read 3 chapter books to earn 30 more tickets. The highest amount of tickets you can earn will be 98 tickets.
